The purpose of Mana Shield is for Academy Movement Rugby Academy schools to create passion, rivalry, and build ‘mana’ now and into the future. 

"Mana" is a deeply spiritual and cultural concept in Pasifika tradition, representing a person’s or group's prestige, authority, influence, and power, which is earned through leadership, wisdom, integrity, and actions. It is both inherited and cultivated, and can grow or diminish based on how one upholds their responsibilities and relationships with others, the land, and the ancestors.

It means more games between our schools mean something and are played for something more than just a warm-up or friendly game.  It also means we can have additional games throughout the school year at any time of the year.  There will be a Mana Shield for boys and for girls.

The shield itself is designed to be sacred and treasured by all who defend it, and challenge for it.  It goes hand and hand with the values of Academy Movement and our schools.
